Good day, i'm Stefano from Italy. i have a ST8300M, first model of year 2011. I need to replace the internal desiccant. There is a code of this? Where i can find this in Europe? Regards, Stefano
Ciao Stefano, Try to get in touch with this company.. not sure if the desiccant is also good for your CCD.. but just ask.. maybe they have some, since they also sell SBIG products.. the company is in Germany.. Ciao Martin http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...329-Trockenpatrone-fuer-SBIG-CCD-Kameras.html
Ciao Martin, thanks. May be i found the replacement in Italy. I asked to Teleskop express, but they replied to me with a wrong type (for ST series, like ST8 or ST10, but the ST8300 is different!) . what you have proposed to me may be is right.... I will let you know. Stefano.
Stefano, The desiccant packets that we put in the ST-8300 look like what is seen in the picture below. We got them from Sorbent Systems. Looking at their website, www.sorbentsystems.com, I believe we used the .25 gram, .625"x.75" packets. We used the Molecular Sieve type. I'm not sure if they sell small quantities. I've got to believe you can find a company in Europe that offers Molecular Sieve desiccant packets. -Bill
Bill, thanks for your help. Unfortunately the sample from Italy is too big (is the smaller that i found). I tried to ask to Teleskop Espress, i'm waiting for reply. This is the photo with the original pack and the wrong replacement pack....
Unfortunately the Teleskop Express can't help me. I sent an email to Sorbent system....i'm waiting for reply. But is possible that the Sbig Official Vendors don't have this spare? Regards, Stefano Focosi - Italy
Ciao Stefano, Try also to contact the BAADER PLANETARIUM.. they also sell SBIG products, also in Germany ! Maybe they can help you ? http://www.baader-planetarium.de/Kontakt/kontakt.htm Good luck Martin
You can find what you're looking for on Amazon...Wisesorb 0.25 Silca Gel Packets for about $14; you'll get enough to last yourself for a few hundred years, or you can give some away to friends.
We do not recommend using ordinary silica gel. The molecular sieve desiccant we use is able to achieve a much lower chamber humidity level. Also... the previous posts are from 2015...
Hi Doug and thanks for the reply. Yup, I realize that the posts were from a much earlier time but these cameras still are out there, so I figured I'd just offer an affordable option that works if someone is looking and stumbles on this thread, but I agree it's not the ideal solution. My thought regarding the desiccant, is that something is better than nothing...I guess it would be different if this was still available from SBIG, but my understanding is that it's not. I was able to find the original molecular sieve desiccant from the maker, but that costs $90 for 3000 of them; so even if I replaced the pack every month, that's a bit more than I'd need. ;-) Anyway, my experience is that these packs work fine, but then I'm not in an extremely humid environment and I'm not running max cooling. Cheers, Karl
